Who Are You?
Face recognition can say who a person is. To do that it looks at a photo or a video.

- The difference between finding a face and naming a person
- Why many people are worried about face recognition
Find a Face, Name a Person
Face recognition can say who a person is. To do that it looks at a photo or a video.
Your phone does this when it unlocks with your face. A photo app does it when it tags your friends in pictures.
How Face Recognition Works
- 1
Find the face
First the AI looks for a face in the picture. It watches for skin colours and for the shape of a face.
- 2
Points on the face
The AI marks important points. Eyes, nose and mouth, for example. That way it maps how the face is built.
- 3
Study the face
From these points the AI guesses a feeling, the age, the gender and more.
- 4
Name the person
At the end the AI compares the face with many stored faces. It looks for a match.
Here you see how an AI studies a face. It guesses a feeling, it guesses an age and it guesses a gender.
Guess first, then experiment
An AI finds a face in a picture. Does it also know who it is?
